As a result of the Kinsey report (read about that here), articles that addressed the issues involving sex and sexuality began to appear in American magazines around the late Fifties. Numerous were the essays with sensational titles concerning "sex fatigue" or "wife swapping" - but one subject was often seen in women's magazines that we simply don't see any longer and those were the articles that told the stories of women who were married to "frigid men". Brighter than most, we immediately recognized that these men were actually the gays of that era who were doing society's bidding and marrying whatever girl they could stand - the rest is predictable, as the article titles imply.

The eight page article attached herein is fabulously naive for all it attempts to explain about gays - and it is also, in its own way, far more kind about gays and lesbians than many other articles from this era.

Another 50's article dealing with gay stereotypes can be read here...

If you're still having a tough time wit the subject, you can read this articles which tells of a time in 1953 when a gay fellow spilled the beans about what it is to be a homosexual...
