"Possibly the most startling figure to emerge from this book is that married women are the abortionist's best customers. 17 percent, more than 1/6th, of all married pregnancies end in abortion. Because this is repeated, 1 out of 4 wives have had an abortion by the time their fertile days are over. These figures, however, include the Depression years, and have dropped sharply since. The 17 percent calculation is an average. By 1950, the figure was about 10 percent."
