An admired theatrical set designer and former actor, Edward Henry Gordon Craig (pictured above: 1872 – 1966), was the author of this column and, as a dyed-in-the-wool theater man, he believed deeply that the cinema was going to lead society to the lowest of places and the sooner this was recognized, so much the better. "It glorifies the lowest in terms of the highest"

In 1922 Craig was the Editor of the dramatic theory magazine, The Mask.
