A decade after President Wilson's World War I declaration of war against Imperial Germany, United States General John J. Pershing (1860 – 1948) penned this article concerning the American military monuments and cemeteries scattered throughout France, Belgium, Italy and Britain.

Pictured above is the Suresnes American Cemetery and Memorial located just outside the city of Paris. As with all U.S. military cemeteries, Suresnes was opened to the public in 1927; interned on its hallowed grounds are the remains of 1,541 Americans (both military and civilian) who died in World War I - 24 Unknowns from the Second World War can also be found there. It is a beautiful cemetery.
