Here is an eyewitness account of the endurance exhibited by the freezing members of the 1st Marine Division as they executed their 100 mile "fighting retreat" from the Chosin Reservoir to the Korean coastline during the closing weeks of 1950. The unorthodox manner in which this dispatch was written simply ads to the excitement - the journalist, who was there with the Marines submitted his diary to his editor, who recognized that all the relevant facts needed to relate the story were intact.
