Attached on the right is a profile of Milton Caniff (1907 1988), who is remembered as the creator of Terry and the Pirates (1934 - 1946), Mail Call (1942 - 1946) and Steve Canyon (1946 - 1988).

This profile first appeared in a U.S. military newspaper in place of his remarkably popular strip, Mail Call, which was created to amuse the far-flung American G.I.s and tantalize them with unwholesome drawings of saucy, street-wise, yet scantily clad women. Throughout the Forties, Caniff continued to work simultaneously on two syndicated comic strips while illustrating numerous pamphlets for the Army; he was fanatical about drawing every military detail correctly, knowing too well that any errant line would simply result in hundreds of letters of complaint.

Caniff was one of the founders of the National Cartoonists Society and prior to his death in 1988 was also named to the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame.
